CEOP education film wins three awards in New York Film Festival
The film 'Clare's Story' was produced by the CEOP Centre as part of its education programme, in order to engage with teenagers and warn them of the risks that they may encounter whilst online. The film demonstrates how chatting online can be extremely harmful to vulnerable young girls if they engage with adults who have a sexual interest in children. The film tactfully highlights the risks and horrific consequences that the offenders online present, in an attempt to make young girls and their parents aware of such dangers.
'Clare's Story' was entered into the renowned New York Festival for International Film and Video Awards. These awards are recognised for showcasing 'the World's Best Work' in information, education and corporate video, and the films entered were examined by several hundred producers, directors, writers and other media professionals in the New York area.
Approximately 1,000 entries were submitted for the festival and Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) were delighted to receive a Gold Medal for 'Best Health and Safety Film', as well as two Silver Medals for 'Best Narration/Performance' and 'Best Direction'.
Helen Penn, CEOP Education Manager commented:
CEOP are thrilled that one of its education films have been chosen for this award. It highlights the quality of the continuing work CEOP is engaged in to empower and protect young people from sexual abuse, and the impact it is having. We look forward to more of the education programme, which can be seen at www.thinkuknow.co.uk, being viewed and used by a wider audience.
So far over 400,000 children between the ages of 11-15 years have attended specially designed ‘safety first’ sessions in schools across the UK.
