Password/Account Stolen

Having your account and password stolen is not very nice. It may mean that someone can access your personal information. They may be pretending to be you, to all of your online friends and family or even post gossip or nasty comments about you or your friends on your online profile. This could leave you in a very sticky situation. Your friends may wonder why you are being mean or might even believe the things you are supposedly saying or posting.

Don’t worry if this has happened. There are some basic things you can do to make it better.

Advice

If your password or account has been stolen you will need to delete your chat, instant messaging or social networking account and create a new one.

If you can no longer access your account because the person who has stolen it has changed the password, you will need to contact the provider directly. Check out the links below for some of the most popular messenger and social networking applications.

Now that you are ready to start again you need to think carefully about protecting your password and account details.

When you are creating a password, you should take a word that means something to you (that only you will know) and then add some letters and numbers to it. Make one of the letters a capital letter.

You should always avoid saving your password on other people’s or public computers. Do not save you password or any personal information on your mobile phone where it is easy for other people to find.
