Viruses

The internet and mobiles are great places to socially interact with your friends and family, play games, upload and download music and post your favourite pictures.

If you are file sharing, you are increasing your chances of getting a virus. One of the easiest ways of getting a virus is to open an email attachment from someone you don’t know or to download music or a film from a file sharing site.

Most people think viruses affect the way their computer works, but a virus may appear in the form of a pop-up or an image and can easily be transferred to your online contacts if you are file sharing. Don’t worry, there are some simple steps you can take to decrease the chance of getting a virus.

Advice

To protect yourself from getting a virus you can use these tips:

  • Don’t open emails from people you don’t know in the real world.
  • Don’t accept music and picture files from people you don’t know in the real world this includes from file sharing sites such as Limewire, Kazaar and BitTorrent.
